Hmm I know this has been brought up before, but what about building a place where all the rules are listed down (all three of the servers-survival, creative and minigames) and when new players join, they have to read it and pass a test by answer some questions regarding the rules before being able to join the server? If they fail, they will be tempbanned for a few hours maybe, and they can try again? This is because it is annoying to see people advertising or spamming the chat frequently. By doing so, players will understand the rules better.

Instead of tempbaning, teleports them back to spawn. but don’t make them too long then people will get bored.

I found that feature on another [ugly] server. Ones who don’t pass or did not take the test will teleport back to unregistered spawn and have their chat disabled. I will not tell the server, nor its address.

PS: How about the people who don’t understand English?

Unfortunate as it is, Eternal craft is unfortunately dying down in active members, In regard to that. i believe that having a system as confusing and buggy as that can cause a rage, and possibly make members not return, also we have members from all around the world, and if someone times out. it would be quite annoying to do this if your ping is quite high.

Actually that’s a nice idea, but will be quite complicated to new players, especially if they speak other languages, and we can’t afford to lose players because of that :/

I have a suggestion if its complicated for different lang why not first put buttons like saying in spanish “if you are spanish press this” and same on for other langs

i’m not definite, but im pretty sure if you change the language in settings, it should read server messages in that language, or bukkit has set up some way to do so,

I have a plan for this:
NOTE: AuthMe commands are only allowed and no chat before completing the quiz.
    0) User logs in/ signs up
    1) Player goes to pressure plate for language
    2) Rules are given – via the form of signs
    3) If they are ready, they will soon go to a pressure plate teleporting them to the quiz.
    4) The quiz starts. The question is shown and there will be holes given to each answer. If the player jumps into the hole below the right answer (sign), he/she can go to another location where another question is given. If not, he/she will be teleported to the rules section – again.
    5) Repeat step #4 until the quiz is finished.
    6) If the player completed the quiz, he/she can go to a server.

    ———————————MY OWN CONCEPT—————————
This concept needs no plugins. It just needs command blocks for teleporting. Another [clearer] version will be posted if I completed it.
DONE V.1.0 of Concept 1- Quiz before playing in the server

this could work, but can get frustrating quick for those who want to get in quick.

Then we could limit the number of questions asked. Just important ones only. And for the place (or whatever it’s called) what about making it a two block walkway down with signs on each side? Just to make it look simple and not too big/spacious (from the psychological perspective, it will be better to have a narrow space rather then a big one with tons of deco so that it wouldn’t look as if they have to travel and read a lot…) :)

I really don’t like this idea since it deters people. When I first joined, I was good at mc but a towny noob. I know servers that have the test and it instantly deters me and other new players.
Edit: razor, you just copied the TE server exactly -.-

I really don’t like this because it takes away from the general freedom of simply joining and starting your journey. Quizzes like that at the first join time often frustrate people and they leave. If people want to read the rules and be a good player they can. If they don’t want to, its there choice.

I don’t think this is a good idea, and you guys forgot about books. We could just y’know, give a book to every player that joins, and it’ll be called ‘Rules’, or put a /kit rules on Survival and Creative and for Minigames, you spawn at /warp rules.

A book would be a better idea.
